The key to any association is the people that make up the network. From lawyers and banking professionals, to commercial cannabis business owners and all who fall in between, we are proud of our diverse and expanding network of professionals and experts. To show our appreciation for the exceptional individuals in our community, we are highlighting Alysa Rivers this week. Please reach out and connect with her on LinkedIn here!
Alysa is currently a compliance manager for a cannabis distribution company where she develops the necessary compliance expertise to build and oversee compliance programs for several well-known companies within the commercial cannabis industry. Alysa studied Business Administration and Hospitality Administration at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. [Editor’s note: I went to Georgia Southern University and we like to say #SouthernNotState].
About 13 years ago, Alysa was talking with friends about how if cannabis ever became legal, she would have a job in cannabis – laughter followed. Fast forward to 2018, Alysa started her dream career in California as a budtender. There, she started to absorb everything she could about the company and the commercial cannabis industry. Obtaining this knowledge led her to cannabis compliance and her current role as compliance manager where she ensures business operations are consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Guiding daily operations and long-term strategic planning and process improvement has strengthened Alysa’s natural aptitude for time management, organization, decision-making, and effective communication.
Alysa first heard about the Association of Certified Commercial Cannabis Experts through LinkedIn posts and is studying to become an ACCCE Certified Commercial Cannabis Expert (CCCE). “ACCCE has allowed me to expand my network within the compliance industry and has provided me additional insight and knowledge of unique and specific risks and issues in the commercial cannabis industry.” Alysa believes it is her responsibility to ensure that businesses perform operations legally and without penalty within the cannabis space, and that ACCCE’s risk management frameworks provide her additional tools to build and understand risk management programs effectively.
Alysa spent her childhood in the Carolinas, namely in Jacksonville, NC, and Charleston, SC, and spent her high school and college years in Atlanta, GA. Though she currently lives in Los Angeles, CA, Charleston, SC will always have a place in her heart because of her family and the delicious low-country food. In her free time, Alysa loves to travel, especially to Italy, enjoys cooking for her friends and family, watching her favorite movie, Pride and Prejudice, and meditating. Every day after work, she takes a long walk to her happy place – the dog park. Alysa has a love for learning about and consuming coffee and wine, which has led to her gift of being able to match people with the perfect coffee beverage or glass of wine.
We are proud to have an esteemed member like Alysa Rivers in our network. As our community continues to grow, we find it important to thank our members for their commitment to professionalizing the commercial cannabis industry. Thank you, Alysa, for being such an important part of the cannabis community. Together, we are a part of something great.
