BNB Bank Private Banking and Cannabis Banking Team Leader and VP Peter Su provides full service commercial banking to the cannabis industry from seed-to-sale and has been in the banking industry for over 20 years. He studied psychology and turbine engines in the Army, and attended school at Stony Brook University, Penn State, and Harvard.
As part of Peter’s mandate to grow BNP’s cannabis business, he is involved in every facet of their cannabis banking program. He also serves on the NCIA Banking and Financial Services Committee. Peter’s commitment to the commercial cannabis industry sets him apart from other bankers who are just “dipping their toes in [to the commercial cannabis industry]”. He considers compliance a major component in the commercial cannabis industry and that ACCCE’s in-depth risk management best practices help him understand issues from his client’s perspective where risk is around every corner. BNB Bank is lucky to have Peter Su as a part of their team.
Peter first heard about the Association of Certified Commercial Cannabis Experts through LinkedIn posts and is currently studying to be an ACCCE Certified Commercial Cannabis Expert (CCCE). “The industry is in need of more standardization and we are seeing some standard bearers stepping up now. I believe the CCCE will be one of the ones standing when the dust settles.” He also believes that a membership and certification is a mark of a professional who has put in the time to understand and learn.
Peter is married with two kids (sorry, ladies!), and lives in Roslyn Heights. No, not Roslyn– Roslyn Heights, which Peter describes as like living in Beverly Hills East. When asked what he does in his free time, Peter answered, “all I do is work!” (Editor’s note: Lucky for BNB Bank!). Peter has a few hobbies, but his favorite is collecting certifications. Not only does Peter hold a CTP and CCBP, his also holds an FCC General Radio Operator’s License, is a licensed sailor, and even a licensed marriage officiant! In addition, Peter is skilled at doing cartoon voices, which his young kids quite enjoy.
